AVAilable Works

Joel Hobbie’s new work is inspired from uprooted cottonwood trees, unearthed by flooding in the area close to where he resides in New Mexico.  Drawn to nature and transformative ideas of death and rebirth, Hobbie casts dead branches in bronze. He reassembles the metal forms and additional repurposed industrial salvage into symbolic and dynamic man-made objects.  These dichotomous entities come alive in response to one’s proximity and position within a space. The viewer is captured by an interactive, immersive experience through sophisticated programming from active sensors.  The sculpture “sees” the viewer through facial recognition and 3D modeling software.
